LIMINAL SPACES | Dust sneak preview in Townsville
Posted 24 August 2018
If you like to be ahead of the curve, here’s your chance to see an innovative and exciting contemporary dance performance before its world premiere at the Brisbane Festival.
Dust is our collaboration with contemporary dance company, Dancenorth, and Niklas Pajanti, an award-winning lighting designer, which will have preview showings on 12th and 13th November in Townsville.
Dancenorth has a global reputation as a leading contemporary dance company and is a champion of the arts in regional Queensland, while Niklas has worked on high-profile gallery exhibitions, theatre performances, operas and contemporary music gigs across the country.
Dust was created by Dancenorth’s Artistic Director Kyle Page and Associate Artistic Director Amber Haines, with the conceptual and spatial design environment and ‘installation’ designed by our team at Liminal Spaces.
The conceptual ideas developed with Kyle, Amber, Niklas and the Dancenorth dancers identified themes that would frame the choreography and artistic vision. The installation created for the dancers that defines the performance space, supports the themes and allows the dancers to interact with and manipulate.,
The performance explores how, through the circumstances we are born into, we inherit the architecture of restriction and opportunity. The concept of the show was born from the imminent arrival of Kyle’s and Amber’s child, which triggered thoughts about the lottery of birth and the systems we face in life.
These performances, held at the Dancenorth Building in Townsville, commence at 7pm each night and are recommended for ages 12 and above. Preview tickets are $30 (or $20 concession) and can be purchased from Townsville Tickets. But be quick, as tickets are strictly limited for these preview performances.
