LIMINAL STUDIO | Hospitality, Sustainability + Furniture Design finalist for IDEA
Posted 28 September 2018
Hot off the press is the latest issue of inside magazine which showcases the finalists for the prestigious Australian Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). Our work on the Freycinet Lodge Coastal Pavilions continues to attract attention, receiving three nominations.
IDEA, which has been running for six years, is one of Australia’s biggest and most successful independent design awards program. The Coastal Pavilions have been nominated for two categories, Hospitality and Sustainability. The coffee table, muylatina (coming together) designed for the Coastal Pavilions has been nominated under the Professional Furniture and Lighting category. We crafted muylatina in collaboration with pakana Aboriginal elder, Vicki West.
The award shortlist includes the Pavilions sharing the platform with high quality work from Studio Tate, Woods Bagot, Techne, Russell & George and JCB and Hecker Guthrie to name just a few of the fantastic nominees.
muylatina’s design brings together modern nanotechnology with traditional pakana Aboriginal basket making. Our table is being judged alongside an inventive range of chairs, tables, lights, plastic hardware and objects from designers across Australia such as Ross Didier for James Richardson, Adam Cornish for Tait, Helen Kontouris Design, Franco Crea, DesignByThem and Tom Fereday for NAU.
In the Sustainability category, we’re nominated alongside such design firms as Kirsten Thompson Architects, Breathe Architecture, CHROFI, John Wardle Architectus, HASSELL and FJMT. Given the level of consultation this project involved in relation to sustainability, it’s satisfying to be nominated in this category.
The Interior Design Excellence Awards 2018 Gala is being held at Sydney’s Centennial Park on Friday 23rd November. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
